Streets and districts

The most picturesque districts in Granada are Albaicín, Sacromonte, Realejo, and, of course, the city center. Start your walk in the Avenida de la Constitución. When you get to the center you will be able to take in buildings from the ancient and bourgeois Granada. Once you reach the heart of Granada in Fuente de los Reyes Católicos there are 3 different directions which you can choose from:

• Towards Plaza Nueva and Paseo de los Tristes:You will come across San Pedro and Albaicín districts on the hillside to the left. If you continue walking you will reach the Sacromonte.
• Towards Realejo, leaving behind Fuente de los Reyes Católicos and entering an even more ancient part of the city until the Paseo del Príncipe.
• Towards the Town Hall, as you walk down the street you will see the Town Hall square to your left. Continue walking towards Puerta Real and you will reach Paseo de la Bomba and Paseo del Salón.

Viewpoints in Granada

These are worthy of their own particular mention. Granada has a large number of viewpoints. Depending on where the viewpoint is the view of the Alhambra and the city will be different. The main viewpoints are:

• Mirador de San Nicolás: This is the most famous viewpoint in Granada. From this spectacular viewpoint you can admire the Alhambra, Generalife and the entire city of Granada. It is permanently buzzing.
• Mirador de San Cristobal: If you do not like crowded places this is the previous viewpoint's \'little brother\'. You will find this viewpoint close to the Mirador de San Nicolás and it also has a view of the Alhambra and Granada.
• Mirador de los Carvajales: This is the romantic, quiet and magical viewpoint you were looking for. Finding it in the many narrow streets in the Albaicín presents an enjoyable challenge. Take your time to appreciate the small reservoir and admire the magnificent view of the Alhambra seen from this particular point.
• Mirador de San Miguel Alto: This is the highest most populated point in the city. The viewpoint affords the most spectacular of Sierra Nevada, the Alhambra and Granada.
• Mirador de Alixares: This is possibly the viewpoint furthest away from Granada and the least known. However, its views differ a lot from the other viewpoints. You can stop at the sharp bend on the hill going up towards the cemetery to appreciate the landscape and then continue along hidden path through the olive trees.
• Lavadero Placeta del Sol. This one is named after the former Puerta del Sol which was located there. It is also known as Puerta de Oriente or Puerta del Mauror. From here you can admire a spectacular view of Granada from the last remaining public wash house in Granada.

What is a 'carmen'? I hear you ask. A carmen is a traditional house in Granada, sometimes with a garden and which has views of the Alhambra and Sierra Nevada. It is also a type of construction typical of the Albaicín and Realejo districts. These are some of the cármenes you can visit in Granada:
